Maths Textbook Return

Energising Science and Mathematics Education: New Directions from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development

Energising Science and Mathematics Education is based on the premise that a sound grasp of science and mathematics among our young people is fundamental to Victoria’s success in a globalised environment. The actions contained within will ensure that Victorian students are equipped with the scientific and mathematical skills they will need for everyday life, as well as for future vocational studies and careers. Minimum School leaving age to be lifted to 17

The Minister for Education, Bronwyn Pike, has announced that an amendment to the Education and Training Reform Act will lift the minimum school leaving age from 16 to 17. Ms Pike said that from January next year all Victorian students will be required to complete Year 10 and remain in some form of education, training or employment until the age of 17.

Cybersmart Website

The Schools' Gateway has now been officially launched as part of the ACMA's new Cybersmart website: http://www.cybersmart.gov.au/

The Cybersmart website represents a single access point for cybersafety advice across a range of target audiences—children, parents, libraries and schools. The site includes comprehensive and practical advice for parents, interactive learning activities for children and information about safe social networking for teens. The website also includes a link to the Cybersmart Online Helpline for young people who have had negative experiences online, such as cyberbullying. The Helpline service is operated by Kids Helpline.
